How is the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, or, what to do when you think that your family can have the disease?

Alzheimer's diseaseFirst, you have to reassure those who have ever thought, and forties or fifties, to prove that they have forgotten, that may be developing Alzheimer’s disease, saying it is unlikely to be so. What little we have said before a patient is aware of its failures and its consequences. When we go into a room and went looking for something without knowing what the hell it was, when we lose the glasses and the keys three times in one morning, when we came down the street someone greeted us graciously and we follow the flow without having any idea who he is, etc. we care. However, this concern is almost a guarantee that we are beginning to have dementia. The likelihood is that we are overly stressed, perhaps depressed, we do too many things at once or simply that we are getting older, whether we weigh. Nothing happens. From everything I just said, it is only important to note the depressions to be discovered, to admit and treat aggressively. Any depressed person has, surely memory problems. Causes Of Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer's DiseaseNone known. Have been identified, however, risk factors.

-Age.

“Genetic predisposition. Have been identified in recent years, certain genetic traits (so-called genotypes) that give the person carrying a predisposition, often very high, the disease, especially if you live long enough. Thus, even if someone had a high risk genotype, if you die, prematurely, for example, at age 60, it will not have the disease. Although they have a first degree relative with the disease may be at greater risk of having it in the future, compared with the normal population can not be considered Alzheimer’s disease is an inherited disease of the way classically understood. Very few cases of families affected by a genetic mutation, transmitted, under these conditions, it is hereditary disease. In other cases, we must insist on a genetic trait inherited predisposition, just that. The best known gene involved is the gene for apolipoprotein E (apoE). Read the rest of this entry »

The treatment of leukemia

treatment of leukemiaDiagnosis is by blood and bone marrow and treatment with intensive chemotherapy and sometimes bone marrow transplantation

Since other diseases have symptoms similar to those of leukemia such as mononucleosis, anemia and some chronic infections like tuberculosis, it is necessary to establish the proper diagnosis, so consultation with an endocrinologist, oncologist and hematologist are importance. Leukemia or blood cancer

blood cancerLeukemia or blood cancer is a chronic disease that can develop over many years without showing obvious symptoms

The immune system is responsible for protecting the body against agents that may cause damage.

Therefore, in the blood are white blood cells that although they live only a few hours, renewing all the time in the bone marrow that is located within a few bones and is responsible for producing them. Read the rest of this entry »

Heartburn. Medical Treatments and Natural Remedies

HeartburnHeartburn
They say there is an increased acidity when clorihídrico acid free or combined in the gastric juices and produce a reflux into the esophagus provoking and causing heartburn. This occurs because the opening that separates the esophagus from the stomach is open after eating food.

Cloríhidrico acid has a digestive function. Its secretion by the gastric mucosa decreases and increases in hypochlorhydria in hyperacidity. In this acid is the acidity of gastric juice. Read the rest of this entry »

What happens during radiation therapy To Brain Tumor

Brain TumorFor conventional radiation therapy, initial visit with the oncologist is called consultation. On this visit I asked the history of their illness and do a physical exam. At this point you may need consultation with other members of your treatment team.

After you and your (s) doctor (s) have decided the course of treatment, beginning the first phase of treatment planning. At this stage, a radiation oncologist, a doctor who specializes in radiation therapy “will make a simulation of radiotherapy treatment using current radiographs (X rays) or computed tomography (CT). In some cases, you may need an MRI. These radiographic studies are used to plan the type and direction of radiation beams used to treat cancer.

During the simulation, you must be lying for no move, on the treatment table, although at that time is not given radiotherapy. Usually, at this stage there will be an immobilization mask to keep your head in the same position. Treatment usually begins one or two days after the planning session.

During the actual treatment with radiation therapy will be asked to lie on the treatment table without moving. The radiation therapist will administer the treatment prescribed by radiation oncologist. The treatment lasts only minutes, and you do not feel anything. Stereotactic radiosurgery If you do, you might put a rigid in the head. This procedure uses computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to help the doctor identify the exact location of the tumor, and a computer to help regulate the radiation dose as needed. You may be taking multiple images on the treatment machine to ensure their alignment.

The treatment planning sessions and the first sessions of radiotherapy can take an hour or two, then the treatments last a few minutes and you can get from the department of radiotherapy after 30-45 minutes each session. In general, treatments are given once or twice a day, five days a week for five to seven weeks.

Treatment Options For Brain Tumor Part 2

Brain Tumor * The three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) is a conventional form of radiation therapy that uses a specific adaptation of the X-ray beams designed to conform to the shape of the tumor to maximize the tumor dose and minimize dose applied in the surrounding normal tissue. This form of treatment is customized according to the patient’s particular anatomy and the location of the tumor. Often, it requires a CT scan or MRI for treatment planning.
* Brachytherapy is the temporary location of radioactive material in the body, usually used to give an additional dose (or stimulus) of radiation in the area instead of splitting. See page Brachytherapy (www.RadiologyInfo.org/sp/info.cfm?PG=brachy) for more information. Read the rest of this entry »

Treatment Options For Brain Tumor Part 1

Brain TumorVarious treatments are used to treat brain tumors. The type of treatment recommended depends on the size and type of tumor, the growth rate and the overall health of the patient. Treatment options include surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, targeted biological agents or a combination thereof. Surgical resection (if not dangerous) is usually the first recommendation of treatment to reduce pressure on our brain quickly. This website focuses on radiation therapy for brain tumors.

In the past two decades, researchers have developed new techniques to deliver radiation to the brain tumor while protecting nearby healthy tissue. These treatments include brachytherapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and radiosurgery. Read the rest of this entry »
