The medicinal uses of “Piper nigrum” is discussed in “bukuro Mimi,” a book written by Moriyasu Negishi, a municipal magistrate, in the Edo period (1737-1815). Pepper also appears in the book Buddhist “Sutta Samannaphala” as one of the few drugs that could be used by a monk.

According to secondary sources in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), white pepper is used for pain and stiffness of joints, such as carpal tunnel syndrome or arthritis. They also report that white pepper is used in the techniques of moxibustion in acupuncture. However, at this time, there is a lack of high quality trials in humans support the use of white pepper for any indication.

Ayurveda: In Ayurvedic medicine, white pepper has been used to treat nasal congestion and hemorrhoids.

China Medicine: According to secondary sources in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the pepper is believed to have warming properties and is used for pain and joint stiffness (of diseases such as arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome), the dyspepsia, nausea, malaria, cholera, cancer, food poisoning, dysentery and gonorrhea. White pepper has also been applied topically to relieve pain. According to secondary sources, techniques of moxibustion white pepper mixed with flour to make a paste and applied on the acupuncture point, then covered with a cone of moxa and ignited.

Modern medicine (Western) herbal: King’s American Dispensatory (1898) describes the use of a poultice topical containing equal parts of verbena, sin and white pepper mixed with egg white to “promote the absorption of the blood of hematomas . “The essential oil of white pepper is used in topical application for the treatment of pain, for example, muscle aches, sprains, osteoporosis, rheumatism and arthritis.

Acupressure deals with the same points and meridians of the body used in acupuncture, but stimulates these sites with finger pressure instead of fine needles. Traditionally been directed towards 14 meridian acupressure points and 2,000 specific routes throughout the body. Today, acupressure is used for preventing and treating many mental and physical illnesses. Currently, there are many human studies that suggest efficacy for the treatment of nausea acupressure point (P6) located on the wrists.

In a new study, researchers randomly assigned 85 students to a real acupressure group or placebo group in which simulated acupressure. The real acupressure group focused on applying pressure at the point called Sanyinjiao (SP6). Were administered general health questionnaire before treatment and again after the first and second month of treatment.

The researchers found that after treatment, improved the overall health of both groups. However, the authors noted that individuals in the acupressure group had a significantly greater improvement in the four areas of general health were measured compared with the group that received sham acupressure. His overall health improved further after the second month of treatment.

The authors concluded that acupressure may be beneficial in improving overall health in women. Although the results are promising, more research is needed to confirm them.

They have practiced various forms of meditation for thousands of years throughout the world, with techniques from many spiritual traditions, especially religious and philosophical practices of the East. In modern times, using many types of meditation, often outside their original religious and cultural contexts.

In a new study, researchers analyzed data on 15 patients with memory problems. Patients participated in a meditation program of 8 weeks, with 12 minutes of daily meditation. Each participant was evaluated to identify changes in mood, anxiety and a variety of neurological and psychological factors.

The researchers found that meditation resulted in improvements in various outcome measures, including mood, anxiety and fatigue. The authors noted that some measures improved significantly, and that all changes were related to blood flow in the brain.

The authors concluded that meditation can improve mood and anxiety in patients with memory loss. However, clinical trials are well designed on a larger scale before drawing conclusions.

Numerous theories have been proposed about the mechanisms of action and potential benefits of meditation. It has been suggested that meditation reduces sympathetic nervous system activity, which is responsible for the “fight or flight”, resulting in a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure, slow breathing and muscle relaxation.

Various forms of meditation, such as the mindfulness (mindfulness), Transcendental Meditation ® and “meditation-based stress reduction programs” have been studied for their effects on anxiety. Better studies are needed before reaching a final conclusion.

If you’re male and you’re worried about your fertility, you may need to consider how much fat you consume every day. And if you think not about one thing with another, read this article and find out what a group of researchers has discovered about the relationship between fat intake and the count and semen volume.

There is a saying that “we are what we eat”, which in other words means that, depending on how we feed it, will our bodies and our health. So are countless investigations that try to analyze how each food can influence the functioning of different tissues and organs of our body.

For example, a recent study that was published in the journal Human Reproduction refers to how diet may affect the fertility of men and reports that consumption of foods high in fat may reduce levels of semen.
According to this analysis, saturated fats appear to be the most important factor related to the quality of semen. In detail: men who ate more saturated fat, the total sperm count had a 35 percent lower sperm concentration and a 38 percent lower than participants who ate less saturated fat.

Moreover, the results show that men who consumed the most fatty acids, known as omega 3 (found in fish and nuts, for example), had more sperm, which were formed properly (about 2 percent) than those who ate the least amount of omega 3.

And while it is still a need for more research to confirm the findings of this study (which was small, as only analyzed data from 99 American men, who were divided into three groups according to their consumption of fat), these data remind us how fragile fertility can be and how much we can do to take care with small changes in habits such as eating a healthy diet.

In this regard, there were other studies that have linked diet with semen quality, including two that were submitted in late 2011 at the annual meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in Orlando, United States, according to which, in short, diets high in red meat and processed grains seem to affect the ability of sperm to move, while diets high in trans fats appear to reduce the amount of sperm in the semen.

If you want to become pregnant and do not, do not be ashamed and ask a health professional (a urologist). Note that often the problem of fertility in the couple is not the woman – as once thought – but the man. For example, among the leading causes of male infertility include:

- Sperm disorders or problems with ejaculation.
- Varicocele. A condition that occurs when dilated veins in the skin covering the testicles, which inhibit the development of sperm because they prevent proper flow of blood.
- Having an illness, injury or chronic health problem. Since renal disease (kidney) to testicular cancer, including systemic diseases as diabetes, sexually transmitted diseases, genetic disorders (inherited) and hormonal problems.
- Some medications and certain factors related to lifestyle such as smoking, steroid use, alcohol abuse or illegal drugs, age, emotional stress, weight, and a vitamin deficiency, among others.

For all this, if you and your partner are taking too long to get pregnant (usually considered a year of regular intercourse without protection), it is important to consult a specialist and not discouraged by any results that may not be you want. Currently there are many methods to treat both male and female infertility and to achieve the much sought after child.

May be recommended physical therapy or occupational therapy, along with supervised exercise. Keep moving the affected area is an important goal of treatment. Once restored some movement, a routine exercise can help strengthen muscles and joints and to maintain operation. It is important to get care from a health professional who has experience in treating this condition, including an anesthesiologist, a vascular surgeon, a physiotherapist or occupational therapist.

Medications can help manage pain. Corticosteroids and physiotherapy can help relieve pain during an acute episode, but the long-term results are mixed. Drugs that might help include:

- nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and other painkillers
- Capsaicin, a cream or ointment that is believed to interrupt the pain signals
- certain antidepressants and anticonvulsants used to treat pain, such as amitriptyline (Elavil) and gabapentin (Neurontin)
- blood pressure medications that affect the sympathetic nervous system, including prazosin (Minipress), propranolol (Inderal), nifedipine (Procardia) and guanatidina (Ismelin)
- bisphosphonates such as alendronate (Fosamax), which are drugs that reduce bone loss
- calcitonin, which is positioned as an injection or nasal spray may decrease bone loss and provide pain relief
- reflexogenic injection zones, where injecting a corticosteroid and a prolonged anesthetic just under the skin on the sore areas
- Sometimes a device called transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) may help relieve pain. It is believed that a battery-operated device blocks the nerve impulses. Biofeedback (biofeedback) may help control pain, blood flow and skin temperature. The Bacoflén may be effective for muscle spasms.
- Simple measures are controversial as applying heat or cold. Applying cold may relieve pain temporarily, but some experts suggest that ice worsens the symptoms of SRHR later. The response to heat also varies.
- For refractory pain, your doctor may recommend an injection of an anesthetic agent near the affected nerves or along the spinal cord to block the sympathetic nervous system. This procedure is called a nerve block.
- Usually done by a series of 3 to 5 injections for 7 to 14 days. If numb the area is effective, it could be a more permanent called sympathectomy. By this procedure, the nerves are destroyed by chemicals or surgery.

Recent treatments include implant a device that stimulates the spinal cord or nearby nerves or injections of clonidine (a drug commonly prescribed for high blood pressure) placed in the area near the spinal cord. These treatments do not always work well and may be associated with complications. But for severe cases that have not responded to other treatments, the benefits may outweigh the risks.

Some people with SRHR better without treatment, but prompt treatment improves the chances of pain relief. About half of people with SRHR are still in pain six months after starting treatment.

Prevention

There is no way to prevent SRHR because the cause is unknown. However, physical activity or physical therapy after a stroke could prevent post-stroke SRHR. There is also some evidence that vitamin C (500 milligrams per day) could prevent SRHR after a wrist fracture.

When To Call a Professional

Contact your doctor if you develop symptoms of SRHR.

Forecast

The sooner this condition is diagnosed, the better the prognosis. If treatment begins immediately, the symptoms may disappear after about three months. Delaying treatment can lead to permanent changes in the bones and muscles. The overall response to treatment is poor. In about 50% of cases, people still feel pain SRHR months and even years later.

Your doctor will ask about your medical history and examine you. The SRHR is diagnosed when these symptoms are present: heat, spontaneous pain, tenderness, swelling, changes in temperature and perspiration. The first stage, before they develop many of these symptoms, it is difficult or impossible to make a diagnosis.

In the last stage, radiographs sometimes show bone loss, especially around the joints. A bone scan can help confirm the diagnosis, but the condition can not be diagnosed by a bone scan only. You may be asked two tests that assess nerve function: electromyography and nerve conduction tests to detect nerve injury or other cause of your symptoms.

Your doctor may also ask for a diagnostic test called sympathetic blockade. Place a shot in the neck or lower back to reduce pain in some but not all. If the blockage reduces or eliminates pain, this can help confirm the diagnosis.

Some doctors use other specialized tests to help diagnose this condition. For example, the autonomic nerves that control perspiration and skin temperature may be examined by measuring the production of perspiration and temperature of the skin. A test called “thermography” traces the skin temperature at different body sites. This shows how blood flow in different areas of the body. It is common in the SRHR have abnormal blood flow.

- severe pain, throbbing, burning and inflammation (swelling), usually in the hand or foot
- shiny, thin skin around the affected area
- although initially there is increased hair in the affected area, then this decreases
- thick and brittle nails
- dry skin and withered
- skin that feels hotter or colder than normal
- skin color changing
- increased sweating

The condition can progress in three stages, although not all pass through the three stages. In the first stage, days to weeks after injury, the limb may feel dry, red and sore. Even the slightest touch or movement can cause excruciating pain. At this point, when the SRHR be confused with rheumatoid arthritis, infection, gout or another disorder, so your doctor has difficulty making the diagnosis.

In the coming weeks to months, the skin may become shiny, thin and cold. The skin of the limb can stain and acquire a purple hue. There is considerable swelling, pain worsens and nails break easily and can grow faster. As it becomes more difficult the movement of the limb, there may be increased pain closer to the tip. This could be related to stiffness and muscle pain.

Some people experience other movement problems including weakness, spasm, and tremor. An affected limb can flex or bend permanently, a condition called contractures. In some people, the skin can become tight, dry and wrinkled. Bones can break easily because they are not made to work. The skin, muscles and joints become stiff so it is impossible to move the affected area. Some patients feel less pain at this stage of the disease. Once the disease reaches this point, it is extremely difficult to treat.

This condition has received other names including algodystrophy, causalgia, shoulder-hand syndrome, Sudeck’s atrophy and transient osteoporosis. In 1995 the name was changed officially to complex regional pain syndrome or CRPS, but this amendment was not accepted worldwide.

In the SRHR, the problem is severe, constant, burning in the arm or leg.

The condition can be triggered by damage to nerve fibers in the tissue suffered an injury, however, still unclear what causes this syndrome. Experts believe that the SRHR, nerves become very sensitive. Signs of pain become more severe and common stimuli such as light touch and temperature changes are felt as pain.

This condition usually starts after an injury or event such as trauma, fracture, infection, surgery or stroke, or after using a cast. Often, the injury that triggers reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome is very mild compared to the pain felt later. However, the condition can progress to more severe injury or paralysis. The pain is often limited to the injured area. The first cases date back to Civil War soldiers, which manifest pain in the arms and legs for days to weeks after receiving healing in their bullet wounds.

This condition can occur at any age and is relatively rare. It is more common in people between 40 and 60 years of age but is most commonly diagnosed in children and adolescents. Researchers believe that 12 to 21% of adults with paralysis on one side of the body and about 5% of adults with nerve injury develop SRHR.

In children with SRHR, girls are affected about two to four times more than boys.

There are different causes of pelvic pain may be pulling us sleep. Some have more risks than others, not all are related to the menstrual cycle and may affect different organs.

Almost all women have experienced what some call “pain in the ovaries” when we have your period (the rule). Even our menstrual cycle may provoke discomfort during, before and between periods. But why all the pains we suffer in the pelvic area necessarily related to this.

There are several causes that can provoke pelvic pain, some have more risks than others, and can be caused by conditions in different organs in the area such as the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina, urinary tract, the intestines and rectum.

Treatment varies according to what is causing the pain: it may be a fertility problem, a slight digestive disorder or an alert that indicates a problem requiring emergency treatment.

Here are some possible causes of pelvic pain:

    – Appendicitis: inflammation in a tissue connected to the large intestine or colon called Appendix. In addition to pain on the right side of the abdomen, symptoms include vomiting and fever. Often mistaken for a gastrointestinal disorder, but it is very important to catch it early, because if you have inflamed and infected appendix must take it off with an emergency operation. Otherwise, it can rupture, spilling the infection into the abdomen (this is called peritonitis), leading to complications that can endanger your life.

    – Irritable bowel syndrome: is a chronic digestive disorder that can cause recurrent pain, cramping, bloating, diarrhea or constipation. Do not know what causes this condition but there are several ways to control symptoms, including changes in diet, stress management and medications.

    – Kidney Stones are stones of salt and minerals that are deposited in the urine, can be as small as a grain of sand to as large as a golf ball. Can be very painful and the urine turns pink or red.

    – Urinary tract infection: occurs when a germ enters the urinary tract and can cause problems in any part of the urethra (the tube that drains urine) to the bladder, through the uterus and into your kidney. Symptoms include pelvic pain, frequent urination and pain in doing so, fever, nausea, vomiting and pain in the left or right side of the lower back.

    – Chronic pelvic pain: occurs below the navel, is maintained for at least six months and may interfere with activities of daily living.

    – Ectopic pregnancy is another situation that requires emergency treatment. It occurs when an embryo begins to grow outside the uterus, usually in a fallopian tube. Symptoms may include pelvic pain, cramping, vaginal bleeding, nausea and dizziness.

    – Pelvic inflammatory disease: a pelvic infection, sometimes associated with sexually transmitted diseases, which can cause permanent damage to the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes, and is a major cause of female infertility. Symptoms include abdominal pain, pelvic pain, fever and pain during sex or urination. Treated with antibiotics and in severe cases may require surgery.

    – Ovarian cysts: in most cases are harmless, often give no symptoms and go away without treatment alone, but if detected, need to be monitored by your doctor. When you have symptoms can cause pelvic pain, weight gain and frequent urination. Depending on its characteristics and its size is its treatment. If they break or bleed, for example can be painful. Most are benign, but need supervision.

    – Uterine Fibroids: Generally not a problem but some women may experience pressure in the abdomen, pain in lower back, painful periods, pain during sex and trouble getting pregnant.

There are other causes such as endometriosis, etc.. If you are suffering from all the months of pelvic pain, you probably already know what they are about the discomforts associated with the menstrual cycle and differentiate them know if you have some other condition. So if you have or have had pelvic pain for some other reason, such as urinary tract infection or irritable bowel syndrome, possibly already know to differentiate the symptoms.

However, it is desirable that you are attentive to the signals your body sends you and do not expect to see a doctor only when you feel something different or unusual. Go preemptively simply to clear doubts, for diagnosis and treatment if you have any discomfort. Talk to your doctor about your pain, he or she could give you advice to make you feel better.
